Part of providing a reliable lawn care service is by providing reliable answers to common questions. Below, you’ll find examples of questions we run into a lot.
When do you guys come out?
Our crews start off each morning around 7am and finish around 6pm. Your home is scheduled in the most logical geographical order with our existing customers. We will typically be out around the same time each week, barring weather. A special mow day can be requested, but we reserve the right to charge additionally for this luxury if it is too far off our current route.
What if it’s going to rain?
A bit of drizzle or light shower doesn’t bother us too much, and our walk-behind mowers are light on their feet and won’t cause damage to your lawn. If it’s a thunderstorm, or raining heavily, we will reschedule your service to the following business day.
Why are you guys so cheap?
Usually this question is followed up with others like “Do you guys do a good job?”, “Do you trim?”, “Where’s the catch?”. The answer is ‘YES, we do a good job.’ We do trim. There is no catch. The way we stay so competitive is simple: we made things a bit more efficient on the billing and mowing sides of things. Yard service should be affordable for everyone. We are one of the cheapest contractors because we choose to be.
When does our contract end?
You don’t have a contract with us. We have a work agreement to show that both parties are informed of our arrangement, but that’s it. We’ll call you at the beginning of each year to see if you’d like to continue service, but otherwise we’re quite hands-off. That’s why you called us, right?
What if I want to skip a cut?
If you need to skip a cut for whatever reason, please notify us the business day before your usual service. In some cases, this may mean you won’t get serviced that week, so please inform us early so we can squeeze you in a few days before if needed. We try not to surprise you, so please return the favor!
What if I get my lawn fertilized?
If you get your lawn fertilized by someone other than us (gasp!), we strongly recommend you sign up for weekly service. Healthy lawn maintenance says to never cut more than 1/3 your grass blade on each mow, and weekly service ensures that. If Lawn Care Express is providing your fertilization, then don’t worry about scheduling; that’s on us!
What if I have a special occasion on my mowing day?
If you have a special event coming up and need us to adjust your schedule, please keep us informed! Just as if you were skipping a mow, we need notification by the business day before so we have time to react. It’s difficult for us to move our schedule around, especially on late notice, but if we have a crew in the area on a later day, we’ll do our best. See: “What if I want to skip a cut?”
How do I cancel?
If you need to cancel, we require 14 days notice to allow us time for rerouting. At the bare minimum, we need two days notice or you will be charged for that week’s service.
When does my e-check go through?
Lawn Care Express processes all e-checks within five business days of having work performed. We do our best to make this as timely as possible, but due to batch fees and admin time we may wait for a day or two and do them all at once. All monthly mailed bills are processed and mailed at the end of the month. Whether paper copy or email receipt, your individual services will be itemized on your bill.
I have a dog, is that a problem?
As a mowing company full of pet lovers, we stress our pet policy for their protection. Our big mowers are scary, and if your pooch is loose in the back yard, we won’t go in. We ask that you keep your pet inside on your mowing, fertilizing, or spring/fall clean-up day. Also, unless you’ve added our dog waste pick up service, we ask that you pick up after your pet. That stuff adds up, and honestly, sometimes we wonder what you’re feeding them!

How many mows per year?
Boy, we wish we could tell you! Suffice it to say that as long as your grass keeps growing, we’ll keep mowing it for you, and you can always call our office or your local manager to get specific scheduling info. As unpredictable as Minnesota can be, we usually start cleanups in early April, and mowing in early May. We typically wrap up for most customers towards the end of October, and November is a call-in / service-upon-request month.
What height do you cut my lawn?
Our mowers are set at 2.5” in the spring and raised to 3” during the hot summer months. These are the heights recommended by the Dept. of Agriculture for our Minnesota grasses. Being as our commercial mowers require power tools to raise and lower decks, we do not typically offer height adjustment between lawns.
Do you do any other lawn service other than mowing?
Yes, we offer spring/fall clean-ups, professional fertilization programs, hedge trimming, bush trimming, and small tree trimming, as well as aeration/aerification, over-seeding, minor bed maintenance, snow removal, and dog waste removal (add-on service only).
What if you damage something while you’re here?
We’re always courteous and cautious while we’re on your property, but sometimes, accidents happen. If this is the case, we will notify you. If you have something you’d like to report, just call our call center at 1-855-4-MOWING and someone will be out to take care of it right away. If it is after business hours, call your area business manager and they’ll be sure to assist you from there. Lawn Care Express is fully bonded and insured.
What if I usually lock my gate?
If you keep a locked gate, we generally recommend that you switch to a combination lock and give us the code so we can lock it back up to you when we’re through. Otherwise you’re responsible for locking/unlocking on your mowing day. If we unload all of our equipment and find you forgot to unlock your gate, we’ll mow everything we can and move on. If it’s on a fertilizing or spring clean-up day, we’ll phone you and reschedule service.
What about bagging?
We use commercial mowers that typically prevent the need for bagging, even if you’ve had to bag in the past with your mower at home. If it becomes an issue, we do offer bagging at an additional charge.
What if it looks like no one was here?
It’s a very rare occurrence, but if you feel like your lawn wasn’t mowed, give us a call the next business day and we’ll send someone out to take a look at it. We’ll check our crew log, and if it was missed, we’ll send a crew out straight away and get everything back on schedule.
Can I switch between weekly and bi-weekly service?
Switching from bi-weekly to weekly is not an issue, but switching from weekly to bi-weekly can cause scheduling conflicts for us. It is usually easier to skip a cut or two during dry season until we can determine the best schedule for your Minnesota lawn mowing services. If you fertilize, you will almost always need weekly mowing to keep up with the fast rate of growth you will experience.
When is my credit/debit card charged?
Just like our e-check customers, we typically process your credit card within five business days of your lawn mowing, lawn fertilizing, yard cleanup, or snow removal / snow clearing service. See: “When does my e-check go through?”
